Hard coloring pages

Full scenes and fine lines, for anyone who wants an afternoon of it.

These drawings fill the whole sheet. Scenery to the edges, lines close together, and enough small pieces that the drawing is still there tomorrow. From six years up, and plenty of them hold an adult just as well.

What makes a coloring page hard

A hard coloring page is not a harder subject, it is a busier one. The same cat becomes difficult once it sits in a garden with fifty flowers behind it, because every flower is an area of its own and the lines between them leave little room for the pencil.

That is what the measurement counts. Drawings on this page hold sixty separate areas or far more, and the linework is fine enough that a fat crayon no longer fits. A thin colored pencil or a fineliner is the tool here.

Work from the back forward. Sky and background first, subject last, and the drawing keeps its depth instead of flattening out.

Common questions

Are these coloring pages suitable for adults?

Part of them, yes. The adult page is the narrower selection: only the drawings with the finest linework and the most areas, where the pleasure is in the detail rather than the subject.

Which pencils work on fine lines?

Thin colored pencils or fineliners. A felt tip bleeds past a line that runs a millimetre from the next one, and the drawing loses exactly the detail you came for.
